Turning the problem of students selecting the correct ratios / relationships into a real-world problem is well served by solving any of the following situations:

1.       Calculating the detailing dimensions for a structural angled brace.

2.       Calculating the detailing dimensions for a structural stair stringer.

3.       Solve the sides / angles in a surveying traverse (to close).

4.       Calculating the angles, lengths of cords and cuts in a common truss.

5.       Calculated the angles and true length lines in a descriptive geometry plate layout.

6.       Apply the notes in all ANSI standard ways to indicate the chamfer on a shaft drawing.

7.       Show the force calculation and diagram of a cantilever jib crane installation.
