YouTube, can YouBe an educational tool for You-n-Me? Could we all share the knowledge and how-to's that we can-do with all of You? But do You really wanna show that part of You?
FaceBook, can I really FaceYou each day, with the many Faces I have to Face, and the many things I have to FaceUpTo? Would not education be better served if I teach Face-To-Face and remain a Nameless-FaceLess person on the Net? I cannot Face another person on FaceBook who 'won some gold, found some fertilizer, aced a game -- and wants to share with me'. That speaks to the 'empty Faces' on FaceBook, little direction and little to do but get life sucked out of them by the empty places of the compter network.
Now to the reading. Several great points.
- Johnson -- Effective methodology and pedagogy are by far the best predictors of student success in Distance Education (DE), whereas Media of any type is much less a predictor and factor in said success.
- Johnson -- Why is the traditional classroom setting for math, science and engineering producing better than DE in these areas, whereas the DE context is better in computing, military and business areas? I submit it goes back to the previous statement -- a need to improve methodology and pedagogy techniques and look at why this is such a disparaging problem (I teach engineering concepts and math, oh,no).
- Simonson -- His list in his conclusion is great (see my comments in the discussion group).
- Lemak -- THIS WAS AWESOME!!! DIALOGUE AND FLEXIBLE STRUCTURE!!! EVERY D.E. INSTRUCTOR REEAD THIS!!!
